Hormone Pellets: Reducing Cancer Risk, Improving Quality of Life

Breast cancer: it’s often the two words that most women fear. Awareness of the risks and early detection has become a cause championed by many organizations, fundraisers, businesses and even the NFL.

Women are encouraged to do self-exams, limit alcohol consumption, and if a genetic risk is apparent, some will opt to undergo mastectomies and/or oophorectomies, which is the removal of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. Because estrogen promotes the growth of some breast cancers, removing the ovaries in premenopausal women reduces the amount of estrogen and may slow breast cancers.

Thanks to recent developments, women may have another line of defense in their efforts and one that’s much less invasive.

Evidence points to testosterone hormone therapy as possibly reducing risk for both pre- and post-menopausal women. We offer hormone pellet therapy at Forum Health Chicago that can not only address cancer risk but also reduce some common aging symptoms like fatigue, decreased libido and mood swings.

I’ve been treating Stacy Miller, 44, for over six years with hormone pellets. She battled with menopausal symptoms in her 30s following her hysterectomy. Stacy lists better sleep, reduced anxiety, weight loss, improved mental clarity and increased libido among her benefits. She says she feels the effects just 48 hours after the procedure, which is quick, painless and doesn’t require stitches. The pellets are simply inserted under the skin just above the hip, and one treatment will last 3-4 months.

In contrast, with many oral hormone replacement medications, effectiveness depends on time and consistency in which they are taken. The pellets take out the human error.

Aside from the common complaints of aging due to a decrease in hormones, replacement therapy also decreases risk for more serious health conditions such as osteoporosis, heart disease, Alzheimer’s and Type 2 Diabetes.

I have found the results to be remarkable, and my patients would go so far as to say they are “life-changing.”

Overall, the pellets are the safest and most natural way to achieve a slow release of hormones in the body, especially testosterone, which is about energy, memory, strength and sexual desire. Those are also the chief complaints I have from my female patients as they age.

Before the treatment, Stacy said she felt “miserable,” and “a little dead inside.” She slept a lot, lacked enjoyment in life, and had little desire for anything meaningful. The pellet therapy has changed all that. She has said she hopes other women can benefit from the treatment like she has.

Benefits of Hormone Pellets for Women

  • Convenient, no hassle dosing. The pellet is inserted and goes to work – no need to remember to take a pill or swipe on a cream. And, since the pellet is slowly metabolized by the body over time, patients don’t have to worry about taking too much or not enough.
  • Minimizes fluctuations between treatments.Pellets are designed to work with each patient’s body chemistry, releasing a natural dose of hormones throughout the treatment cycle.
  • The process is quick and non-invasive.It’s almost like having your bloom drawn. Local anesthetic is applied to the injection site, a tiny incision is made in the skin, and the pellet is put into place by our trained medical staff and sealed with medical tape. There is no need for stitches or fear of scarring.
  • No risk.Pellet therapy has not been associated with increased risk of any adverse conditions or diseases.
